Please note that no MATH-UA course credit is conferred for passing a Math placement or outplacement exam. Lastly, there are two outplacement exams that permit students to place out of Calculus III or Math for Economics III. The Math Department also offers placement exams to place directly into Calculus II (MATH-UA 122), Calculus III (MATH-UA 123), Mathematics for Economics II (MATH-UA 132 formerly MATH-UA 212) and Math for Economics III (MATH-UA 133 formerly MATH-UA 213). ![]() Students may take the Calculus/MFE I Placement Exam to place into Calculus I, Math for Economics I, Discrete Mathematics, Linear Algebra or Honors Linear Algebra. This is in comparison to a grade of C or higher for the aforementioned courses. However, a grade of A- or higher is required in Algebra, Trigonometry and Functions (MATH-UA 9) to satisfy the prerequisite for Honors Linear Algebra. There is also information on placing into higher levels of calculus and how Advanced Placement and other examinations may affect placement AP or other advanced standing credit in calculus cannot substitute for any courses in the MFE sequence, nor do they satisfy the prerequisites for Math for Economics II or III.ĭiscrete Mathematics (MATH-UA 120), Linear Algebra (MATH-UA 140) and Honors Linear Algebra (MATH-UA 148) have the same prerequisites as both Calculus I and Mathematics for Economics I.
